Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter has filed a defamation lawsuit against an Alabama woman who accused him of raping her when she was 13 years old.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday, alleges that Jane Doe fabricated the claims as part of an extortion attempt.
Jay-Z’s Lawsuit and Allegations
Jay-Z’s lawsuit argues that Jane Doe deliberately timed her accusations to cause him harm and financial damage.
In addition to Jane Doe, the lawsuit also names her attorneys, Tony Buzbee and David Fortney, accusing them of being “driven by greed” and disregarding the truth.
Doe initially claimed that Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulted her following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards.
However, she withdrew her lawsuit after Jay-Z challenged its credibility and sought sanctions against Buzbee.
Claims Against Tony Buzbee
According to Jay-Z’s lawsuit, Jane Doe has since admitted to his legal team that her allegations were false and that Buzbee pressured her to move forward with the claims.
The lawsuit states:
“Doe has now voluntarily admitted directly to representatives of Mr. Carter that the story brought before the world in court and on global television was just that: a false, malicious story. She has admitted that Mr. Carter did not assault her; and that indeed it was Buzbee himself … who pushed her to go forward with the false narrative of the assault by Mr. Carter in order to leverage a maximum payday.”
Jay-Z claims these accusations have severely damaged his reputation and that this lawsuit is an effort to stop what he describes as an extortion attempt.
Tony Buzbee’s Response
Tony Buzbee has denied the claims in Jay-Z’s lawsuit, stating that Jane Doe has not retracted her accusations.
He responded:
“Shawn Carter’s investigators have repeatedly harassed, threatened, and harangued this poor woman for weeks, trying to intimidate her and make her recant her story. She hasn’t, and won’t.”
Buzbee further alleged that Jay-Z’s legal team has attempted to bribe individuals into suing him, adding another layer to the ongoing legal battle.
Jane Doe Maintains Her Claims
Despite withdrawing her lawsuit, Jane Doe continues to stand by her allegations.
TMZ reports that she claims Jay-Z’s investigators approached her and her family, trying to pressure her into signing an affidavit recanting her accusations.
She also alleges they questioned whether Buzbee had offered her financial incentives to file the lawsuit.
Jane Doe asserts that these encounters have left her fearful, as she had remained anonymous in media reports and legal proceedings.
Ongoing Legal Dispute
As Jay-Z’s defamation lawsuit unfolds, both sides continue to present conflicting narratives.
The outcome of this legal battle remains uncertain, and more developments may emerge as the case progresses.
