🚨 Former Pro Baller Jarred Dwayne Shaw Arrested In Indonesia
American basketball player Jarred Dwayne Shaw is in serious legal trouble overseas.
The 34-year-old Dallas native was arrested in Indonesia on May 7 after police raided his apartment and discovered 132 pieces of Delta-9 THC candies—a substance strictly banned in the country.
🏀 From G-League To The Indonesian Basketball League
Shaw, who once played for Utah State and Oklahoma State before spending time in the NBA’s G-League, had been playing in the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) since 2022.
But his career in the league came to a screeching halt after the arrest.
Tangerang Hawks’ manager Tikky Suwantikno confirmed the team fired Shaw for breaching his contract.
IBL Chairman Budisatrio Djiwandono banned him for life, stating, “There is no room for drug users in the basketball world.”
🧃 What Led To His Arrest?
According to USA Today and the Associated Press, authorities were tipped off when a package from Thailand addressed to Shaw was flagged.
Upon raiding his apartment in Cisauk, Tangerang Regency, they found the stash of cannabis-infused candies.
Although cannabis was decriminalized in Thailand in 2024, Indonesia enforces some of the harshest drug laws in the world.
Shaw allegedly told police the candies were intended for his teammates, but that hasn’t softened the blow.
He was officially charged with drug smuggling, and now faces either a life sentence or the death penalty.
⚖️ Indonesia’s Harsh Drug Laws
Indonesia has a long history of issuing severe penalties for drug offenses.
As of now, over 530 people are on death row—many for drug-related crimes.
The last known executions occurred in 2016, and included foreign nationals.
At a press conference held May 14, Shaw was presented to the media—hands bound, wearing an orange detainee uniform. He remained silent throughout.
📝 Know Before You Go
Jarred Dwayne Shaw’s future now hangs in the balance as he awaits trial in Indonesia.
His case serves as a chilling reminder: when it comes to international travel, knowing local laws isn’t optional—it’s essential.
